Our thoughts of Jack..."Grampie Jack"

Created by judatkin 4 years ago

The girls and I are thinking of you all and wish we could be with you to support, comfort and share stories.  I will remember Jack for his humour and love of music and his ability to get everyone involved in a good party.  A favourite memory is his consternation at having to count those of us staying at the house over the "census" weekend and the humour it caused.  Casey has wonderful memories of Grampie Jack while she and Annie stayed with him and Joan in Cornwall.  She remembers him as a gentle man, who was always present and meaningful when he spoke to her.  He loved doing things with them and made things fun, but he trusted them completely to go off down to the beach alone.  Casey was in the habit of saying "cool" to most of his attempts to have a conversation with her and she really didn't know what to say.  Eventually he suggested that she put a penny in a box for every time she said "cool".  She says that cured her! All three of my daughters remember his kindness and for always making them feel welcome when we visited in Vancouver and they remember well how he used to magically pull candies out of their ears!  Jack was so like my own Dad in so many ways and I was so pleased that my parents and Jack and Joan were able to meet after all the adventures that Catherine and I had had. We send love to you all, Judith, Claire, Molly and Casey
